Just when you thought the Pokemon Go craze had died off, Universal is gearing up to let the doors swing wide on Jurassic World Alive, a mobile game that will soon allow players to search for digital dinosaurs in and around their own neighborhood and beyond.
For the game, Universal has partnered with the mobile-game developer Ludia to create an "Augmented Reality" game similar to Niantic's overnight phenom, Pokemon Go. While no release date has been set for the game, it's being reported that the interactive dino-derived mobile scavenger hunt will launch globally ahead of the premiere of JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM on June 7th.
Since the release of Pokemon Go during the Summer of 2016, several other AR mobile titles based on pop culture properties such as Harry Potter, The Walking Dead, and Ghostbusters have been put into development. One has to wonder though, now that the Pokemon Go craze has come and gone, will something like Jurassic World Alive inspire gamers to step outside the comfort of their homes, once again, for an elaborate game of hide and seek? Let's break down what you'll be doing in the game, and then you can let us know where you stand.
For Jurassic World Alive, players will collect a variety of dinosaurs while exploring the world around them via AR technology. The game will feature free in-game incubators and exclusive dinosaurs, including creatures created specifically for the Jurassic film franchise. Upon discovering a dinosaur, players will send out an in-game drone to collect DNA samples, which they can then level up to create genetically modified versions of the beasts. Once properly leveled, players will be given the opportunity to compete in real-time player-versus-player arena-style battles to reap more rewards. So … yeah, it's prety much a re-skinned Pokemon Go.
What do you think of Jurassic World Alive? Are you prepared to piss your neighbors off while searching for Compsognathus in their carefully-crafted rose gardens? Does the thought of trespassing onto private property in the hope of discovering a Velociraptor give you a thrill? Let us know if you plan to download the game in the comments section below. And while you're at it, tell us what other cinematic properties you'd like to see adapted for the mobile AR gaming platform.
JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Jeff Goldblum will stomp into theaters beginning on June 7th.
