Happy Pokémon Day! Before you go on the hunt to catch ’em all, there is news on the horizon for new content! In celebration of the day for its fans, Netflix and The Pokémon Company has released a special first look at the characters of the new stop motion series that will be streaming on the platform. Pokémon Concierge will feature characters Haru and Psyduck as the new sneak peek shows the duo catching some happiness on a beach.
The news from Netflix includes the synopsis, “Expanding the Pokémon world, the story follows Haru, a concierge at the ‘Pokémon Resort,’ and her interactions with Pokémon and their owners who visit as guests.” This series will be Netflix’s first collaborative production with The Pokémon Company and an ambitious stop-motion project produced by critically acclaimed dwarf studios.
In a statement released by Minyoung Kim, Vice President of Netflix Content in Asia, the streaming service has expressed, “Netflix is looking forward to delighting fans in Japan and around the world with Pokémon Concierge, an entirely new visual and storytelling experience featuring ground-breaking stop-motion animation set in the Pokémon world in close collaboration with The Pokémon Company. We’re also excited to reveal this new series on Pokémon Day and provide fans with even more things to look forward to on this special holiday celebrating the popular franchise.”
This announcement comes in light of long awaited content from the card game and video game property. While Detective Pikachu became fairly successful at the box office, Warner Bros. had announced that they were moving forward with plans to make a sequel. And yet, there has been no updates and the film’s star, Justice Smith, has stated that he doubts there will be a follow-up, even before the shake up due to the Warner Bros and Discovery merger. “I would love to participate in Detective Pikachu 2. I don’t know if it’s going to happen. I think we have to just kind of bury our hopes. I don’t think it’s going to happen. I really hope so though. Honestly, I’m such a huge fan, who knows, who knows? I hope so.”
