It's going to be a nostalgic holiday season this year gang. Warner Bros. has set a release date for the ROCKY spinoff CREED directed by Ryan Coogler (FRUITVALE STATION) and starring Michael B. Jordan as the grandson of Apollo Creed. I absolutely loved ROCKY BALBOA and thought it was a perfect ending for the franchise; I welcome the spinoff with optimism because of the talent involved. Stallone co-stars in CREED acting as a trainer and mentor to Jordan’s character. The film will open on November 25th, 2015; you can expect some shuffling around however as that Thanksgiving weekend is looking very busy.
Creed opens opposite Pixar’s THE GOOD DINOSAUR, Ridley Scott’s sci-fi thriller THE MARTIAN, Jeff Nichols’ sci-fi film MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, and the untitled Christmas comedy starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Now from the ring to the beach, Warner Bros. has pushed the POINT BREAK a few seasons away. The film, directed by Ericson Core (INVINCIBLE), was originally set for a July 31st release, but with Paramount recently moving MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5 to that date, the action remake is heading to December and will explode into theaters on Christmas Day. Also opening that day (as of now) is Will Smith’s NFL drama CONCUSSION, MONSTER TRUCKS, David O. Russell’s JOY, and ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS 4.
