Plot details emerge for Tarantino’s new movie

After leaving The Weinstein Company Quentin Tarantino has officially found a home at Sony Pictures, which will release his next movie. Regarding the movie, all anyone has known about it is that it will take place in 1969 and somehow involve Charles Manson and the murder of Sharon Tate. Tarantino has said it's not entirely about Manson, and thanks to a new report, we now know what the story will actually focus on.

According to a source who read the script and gave the details to Vanity Fair, the movie is certainly not centered on Manson, and instead follows two wannabe movie stars, with Manson and his followers existing in the background:

[The movie] focuses on a male TV actor who’s had one hit series and his looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick—who’s also his stunt double—is looking for the same thing. The horrific murder of Sharon Tate and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers serves as a backdrop to the main story.

This plot synopsis comes on the heels of the death of the real Charles Manson, who died this weekend of natural causes at the age of 83. No word yet on who Tarantino intends to cast in the movie, but actors Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise are names we’ve heard in the conversation. As well, the director apparently wants Margot Robbie to play Sharon Tate.

Tarantino has always had a flair for the style of 60s and 70s cinema, so doing a movie set in the late sixties seems like a perfect fit, and one I’m shocked has taken the director so long to get to. The era is one of a new generation of Hollywood coming in, with movies like THE GRADUATE and BONNIE AND CLYDE ushering in a new, grittier style of cinema that led to an explosion that gave us filmmakers like Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. So, naturally, Tarantino is setting the movie in the entertainment business.

Though I enjoyed HATEFUL EIGHT it wasn’t his biggest hit, making only $54 million at the box office, a notable low from the highs of INGLORIOUS BASTERDS and DJANGO UNCHAINED. Apparently, those who have read the script say this new movie from Tarantino has huge box office potential, but I’m just psyched that a new Tarantino movie is only two years away. I know that seems like a long way away, but if you can wait for STAR WARS you can wait for Tarantino.

Tarantino's new movie is set to begin production next year and will get a 2019 release.
