Possible plot details for Assassin’s Creed film starring Michael Fassbender

Details were pretty sparse in regards to ASSASSIN'S CREED until last week when Michael Fassbender confirmed that the film was still in the works with director Justin Kurzel. The storyline is still shrouded in mystery and many fans of the games are wondering if the movie might try to emulate the story of one of the games or do it's own thing. Well, from the looks of it, it's going to be a bit of both.

Word is that the screenplay being constructed is mostly new and that Michael Fassbender will be playing dual roles in the film. The first would be that of death row inmate Michael Lynch, which takes place in present day. The second would be Aguilar de Agarorobo, an Assassin during the Spanish Inquisition. In the present, Michael Lynch will be the test subject of a researcher named Joseph. Evidently Michael will receive help in the form of a female assassin named Lara (who may also show up in the past sequences as her ancestor). This is somewhat of a riff on the first game, in which the main character was ultimately set free by a researcher's assistant, who turned out to be an Assassin.

A plot point taken from the second Assassin's Creed game is that Aguilar's father will be an assassin chief (much like Ezio's father was a prominent member of the Assassins). As far as our bad guys go, in the film the big baddie of the past looks to be Tomas de Torquemada, who in the games worked under Rodrigo Borgia, the antagonist of Assassin's Creed 2. In the present, the bad guy will be Alan Rikkan, CEO of a corporate front for the enemies of the Assassins, the Templars. Much like the video games, the plan is to have him "appear" in voice only.

Video game studio Ubisoft went out of its way to create it's own film production studio to help bring an Assassin's Creed film to fruition, so I imagine they're overseeing the story process every step of the way. Given that there's a Creed video game every year, one wonders if they'll be creating one to coincide with Fassbender's adventures. It would seem like a good marketing strategy, especially if they implement his voice and likeness. Either way, this is one of the few video game flicks that I'm actually interested in given the talent involved.

ASSASSIN'S CREED is aiming to hit theaters on August 7, 2015.

I think this offers us a glimpse of what we're in for.
