Can Hollywood just stay away from the manga adaptations unless they plan on nailing it? Word has it that no one gives a shit.
I was bursting with happiness when I found out that the live-action version of AKIRA was finally put on an indefinite hold. Then there’s the DEATH NOTE film that Shane Black (KISS KISS BANG BANG) is directing. He’s been fighting with changes that Warner Bros. wants to make like giving Light Yagami a different back story and leaving out the Shinigami. Black says that those proposed changes will not be in his film.
Now it seems that Warner Bros. is moving on to another popular piece of manga, Tite Kubo’s BLEACH.
The story follows, “the adventures of Ichigo, a teenager who can see ghosts. When his family is attacked by a Hollow — a malevolent lost soul — Ichigo inadvertently absorbs the power to hunt Hollows. He then dedicates his life to protecting the innocent and helping tortured souls find peace.”
The studio has set Peter Segal (GET SMART) to produce and possibly direct. Dan Mazeau (WRATH OF THE TITANS) will take on the screenplay.
Segal said this about the project, “I’ve always been a huge fan of ‘Bleach’ and have great respect for its creator Kubo and the truly original and amazing world he has created in this manga.”
Stay away from Fullmetal Alchemist. That is all.
