Planet Dune trailer: Sean Young stars in Asylum mockbuster

Back in 1984, Sean Young played the character Chani in director David Lynch’s cinematic take on the Frank Herbert novel Dune (watch the film HERE). Now a new adaptation of Dune, this one directed by Denis Villeneuve, is set to reach theatres and the HBO Max streaming service on October 22nd – and while Young wasn’t asked to make an appearance in that one, she does star in The Asylum’s mockbuster Planet Dune! Planet Dune is due out October 29th, and you can watch the trailer in the embed above.

Instead of digging into that whole “space messiah” thing Herbert’s story has going on, The Asylum has wisely chosen to focus on the element of Dune that really sticks in the minds of the general audience: the sand worms. Planet Dune is all about the sand worms.

Directed by Glenn Campbell and Tammy Klein from a screenplay by Lauren Pritchard and Joe Roche, Planet Dune has the following synopsis:

A crew on a mission to rescue a marooned base on a desert planet turns deadly when the crew finds themselves hunted and attacked by the planet’s apex predators: giant sand worms.

Young is joined in the cast by Emily Killian, Tammy Klein, and Clark Moore.

Planet Dune looks sort of like it could be “Tremors in space”, but lower quality than any of the Tremors movies, and the sand worms aren’t as cool as the Tremors Graboids. It could deliver some dopey fun, though. Despite the drawbacks, chances are that I’ll end up watching Planet Dune sooner than I get around to watching Villeneuve’s Dune. Our own Chris Bumbray and JimmyO both loved Dune, giving it a 9/10 review and a 10/10 review respectively, but I still can’t get hyped for it.
