Fangoria magazine was recently saved from the wasteland by multi-media production company Cinestate, and they're not just bringing the magazine back, they will also be developing and releasing genre films under the banner of its popular and respected name. The first Cinestate/Fangoria release will be this August's PUPPET MASTER reboot PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH, and now the company has acquired the horror comedy spec script SATANIC PANIC.
Written by author Grady Hendrix from a story he crafted with WE ARE STILL HERE / MOHAWK director Ted Geoghegan, SATANIC PANIC has the following synopsis:
A pizza delivery girl at the end of her financial rope has to fight for her life — and her tips — when her last order of the night turns out to be high society Satanists in need of a virgin sacrifice.
Although the set-up is quite different, that reminds me of another Satanic horror movie that was released within the last ten years and also had a good amount of pizza action in it, THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL (pictured above).
Cinestate's Dallas Sonnier will be producing SATANIC PANIC alongside Amanda Presmyk and Aperture Entertainmen's Adam Goldworm, with Phil Nobile Jr. serving as executive producer. The producers will soon begin searching for a director.
This project was first announced almost three years ago, when it was in the hands of different companies and was said to be a directorial project for Geoghegan. At that time, Geoghegan described it as,
equal parts supernatural horror and survival thriller. The film hinges on smart, funny dialogue and a clever, surprisingly badass female hero. A snarky, splattery takedown of the 1%, it places a trod-upon heroine up against the literally soulless societal upper crust. The banter and blood come fast and furious, and we’re hoping to leave very little time to breathe between gasps and gags."
That sounds quite promising to me. Hopefully that's how the finished film will turn out, even without Geoghegan at the helm.
