Avast, me hearties! Pour yourself a flagon of rum and prepare to set sail for adventure because we’ve got some intriguing news about Pirates of the Caribbean 6. Speaking with AP Entertainment, producer Jerry Bruckheimer commented on the chances of Johnny Depp reprising his Jack Sparrow role for another round of slapstick on the high seas. Despite running into legal trouble and having his breakup with ex-wife Amber Heard making headlines in every tabloid rag at the supermarket, support for Depp to return to the Pirates franchise is at an all-time high. While a sixth film in the series is still sitting at the bottom of Davy Jones’ Locker, Disney remains determined to brush the barnacles off the property and give it another go.

When asked if Depp could return as the bumbling Jack Sparrow, Bruckheimer said, “We’re still working on it. Nothing’s definitive yet, but we continue to take little baby steps getting toward a screenplay.” Way to dodge the question, Jerry. If we loosen him up with another bottle of rum, do you think he’ll spill the beans?

Earlier this year, a rumor began circulating that Disney was preparing to offer Depp $301 million to return for a new Pirates of the Caribbean feature. Fact-checkers quickly debunked the story, but that didn’t stop Depp’s loyal supporters from spreading the lie like wildfire. Depp’s relationship with Disney remains unclear. While Jack Sparrow remains the franchise’s flagship character, a fresh start could be in the studio’s best interest.

In addition to Pirates of the Caribbean 6, a spinoff starring Margot Robbie is reportedly still in the works. Speaking with Collider, Bruckheimer said Robbie’s Pirates project is still in the cards, but he’s waiting for a proper script.

“I think that that script will come forward at a certain point,” Bruckheimer said. “We developed two different stories for ‘Pirates’ and the other one’s going forward first, so that’s what we’re working on, to try to get that one made.”

If you want to see Depp reprising the iconic role of Jack Sparrow, you should check out the Make-A-Wish video he made for a young fan. In the video, Depp addresses the camera in full Jack Sparrow attire. The footage will melt your heart and remind you why the character is so beloved; I guarantee it.
