A few days ago I posted a picture that showed Orlando Bloom swimming in a sea of balls on the set of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD’S END. I know I’m hammering that joke into the ground but I’ve got nothing else. Really, I don’t. But what I do have is a before and after special effects shot from the POTC:3 set that shows you a bit of how they went about creating Davey Jones—who is perhaps the greatest visual effects achievement to this day—and his pack of sea-creature cohorts. The trick with Davey Jones is that the talented folks over at Industrial Light & Magic figured out a way to perform motion capture techniques ON SET, as opposed to in front of a blue screen. Check out shots below, that’s Bill Nighy (LOVE, ACTUALLY) with the black makeup around his eyes and mouth, and click on it to ENLARGE.
