Pierce Brosnan thinks Tom Hardy would make a great James Bond

The new James Bond movie is coming together with Danny Boyle directing and Daniel Craig returning for another go as 007. From the sound of it this could be Craig’s last run in the tux, and soon we could be having more discussions as to who should take his place. Former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan has a choice in mind, believing actor Tom Hardy would make a great gentleman spy.

The actor was talking to The Daily Mail recently as MAMMA MIA 2: HERE WE GO AGAIN gets ready to come out, and he was asked about the future of Bond, including if such a womanizing character should even exist in this day and age, and if a woman should take on the part. It was then he mentioned it would make him happy to see Hardy in the role, as he thinks he has the right physicality for the gig.

Bond is Bond and you can’t change that. I think a woman could play Bond but it wouldn’t be James Bond. Daniel Craig has been an incredible Bond. He’s very physical, he looks lethal. You genuinely believe this is someone who could kill a man. He’s complained about doing the part because he’s put himself through a lot physically, but he will do the next movie, and then I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond. I’d be happy to see him do it. You need an actor who can put a bit of wiggle into it – that’s what makes Bond.’

Before signing back on for the role of Bond Craig seemed to be done with the part after expressing his exhaustion from working on the movies. This led to tons of speculation over who could replace him, with names like Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston coming up. Even Hardy’s name was thrown around, with the actor saying he would do it if Christopher Nolan signed on to direct.

Craig is seen as one of the best to don the suit, if not the best, so filling his polished shoes won't be easy. Clearly, Brosnan is in the same boat as many people in thinking Hardy should play the part. But who knows what the future of Bond will hold after the next movie. In an age where audiences want more diversity in their movies, it could very well happen that the studio starts thinking outside the box for a new 007. But, I agree with Brosnan. Hardy would make a great Bond, and could even up the tough, gritty vibe Craig has been cultivating. Could you imagine a brutal, tattooed 007?

BOND 25 is set for November 2019.
