While Bridgeton's Rege-Jean Page is the odds-on favorite according to bookmakers to be the next James Bond, former 007 himself, Pierce Brosnan, thinks it really only comes down to two guys to claim the role.
Brosnan was making the rounds promoting his new movie False Positive and during a recent interview with "People Magazine", the actor was asked who would be his choice to take over for Daniel Craig as James Bond. While he said "sometimes it becomes wearisome" being asked who he thinks should be the next Bond, his two choices came down to Tom Hardy or Idris Elba:
"Idris Elba comes to mind. Idris is such a powerful presence and such a great former voice tensity. He would be magnificent. There's Tom Hardy out there as well. Tom can really chew the furniture up, just be a ball boy, both men can. And I think now that Daniel has left such an indelible footprint, they can go in many different ways. But your guess is as good as mine, who's going to be the next Bond. There's no other franchise like it. Nothing."
Brosnan has been asked this question previously and he also name-dropped Tom Hardy during that discussion as well. Elba and Hardy are both popular choices with fans online, along with Henry Cavill and Luke Evans. Some online chatter gripes about them being in their 40s now, which shouldn't be a problem at all but, some think it might get in the way of potential longevity in the role. Brosnan also took another moment to praise Daniel Craig's take on the character while also reflecting on his own time as 007:
"Daniel was magnificent and he can walk away head up, shoulders back. He truly left an indelible mark on the franchise. My time and years of doing it, a decade, was one to be cherished and one that is a gift that keeps giving, having played that role."
Brosnan played James Bond over the span of four movies, including Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and Die Another Day. I wouldn't call myself a huge James Bond fan but Brosnan was my favorite person to take on the role before Daniel Craig came along and Goldeneye still remains one of my favorite Bond films to date. It's interesting to hear who he thinks should be next in line and it pretty much matches up with the online chatter that is currently out there.
Do YOU agree with Pierce Brosnan's choices for the next James Bond?
