Amazon is going to have to find a new Mrs. for its Mr. & Mrs. Smith TV series. It has been announced that Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who was due to star opposite Donald Glover, has exited the Amazon reboot.
The reason being cited is understood to be creative differences and not much more explanation was given beyond that. The show is currently being written ahead of its production start next year. Amazon will now be on the move to re-cast the female lead, with Glove still on board to star as well as in his roles as co-creator and executive producer. According to “The Hollywood Reporter“, Waller-Bridge and Glover remain friends following what was described as an amicable split. The series still remains on track for a 2022 debut.
The Amazon adaptation is set to be a reboot of Dough Liman’s 2005 action comedy film of the same name that starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The film followed a bored upper-middle-class married couple that is surprised to learn that they are assassins belonging to competing agencies and that they have been assigned to kill each other. The film earned a 60% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes but it was an even bigger hit with moviegoers, grossing $186.3 million domestically and $478.2 million worldwide.
