Peter Jackson’s Beatles documentary Get Back drops sneak peek trailer

Following the release of The Hobbit trilogy, Peter Jackson took a step back from directing big-budget fantasy blockbusters, but his projects since then have been no less ambitious. In 2018, Jackson released They Shall Not Grow Old, a World War I documentary that restored and colourized footage that was over a century old. The result was something absolutely immersive and profoundly fascinating. Jackson's next project will continue in the documentary realm and cover a group near and dear to my heart — The Beatles.

The Beatles: Get Back will take audiences back to the band's "intimate recording sessions during a pivotal moment in music history." Over 60 hours of unseen footage was filmed throughout January 1969, which Peter Jackson and his team have lovingly restored. The film was originally slated to hit theaters this year, but wasn't possible owing to pandemic delays, but Jackson still have a treat in store for us as he's released a five-minute sneak peek at The Beatles: Get Back. "We hope it will bring a smile to everyone’s faces and some much-needed joy at this difficult time."

The official synopsis for The Beatles: Get Back:

The Beatles: Get Back is the story of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr as they plan their first live show in over two years and charts the writing and rehearsing of 14 new songs, originally intended for release on an accompanying live album. The film features – for the first time in its entirety – The Beatles' last live performance as a group, the unforgettable rooftop concert on London’s Savile Row as well as other songs and classic compositions featured on the band’s final two albums, Abbey Road and Let It Be.

The Beatles: Get Back will hit theaters in the U.S. on August 27, 2021.
