So the TRANSFORMERS Cinematic Universe is actually going to be a thing, with the first spin-off film – BUMBLEBEE – coming out next year. But how connected will it be to the original five (!) TRANSFORMERS films? Will he finally talk for a whole film (even though he got his voice back at the end of the first film?) Will it answer some plot-holes about the timeline (unlikely)? Or, most importantly, will there be cameos from other Transformers?
Well, that last question seems to have been answered, as Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen was asked if he would provide a voice in the film, to which he responded with a simple “yes”. Here’s the video proof below, courtesy of Ramdeen Productions:
However, as you can see in that twelve-second clip, all Cullen did was say he was in the film. There’s no mentioning how big or important the role is, or if Optimus Prime would just be heard and not seen. It honestly will most likely just be a cameo, since this is Bumblebee’s solo outing. My bet is on a prologue in Cybertron. But we’ll see.
Anyway, here’s the official synopsis:
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
Meanwhile, BUMBLEBEE will roll out into theaters December 21st, 2018.
