For what is surely today's surprise casting news, it's been announced that DOCTOR WHO and Oscar-winning actor Peter Capaldi is joining the cast of James Gunn's THE SUICIDE SQUAD. I don't know about you, but this announcement is sure to make anyone's "darkest timeline" a little bit brighter!
In addition to Capaldi joining the cast, it's also been said that Saturday Night Live's Pete Davidson is in talks for a small cameo in Gunn's upcoming super villain-centric adventure. While a deal has yet to be struck, it's to be believed that Davidson will film his part between breaks on SNL.
Previously, Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) as well as new cast members Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher) and Flula Borg were all confirmed for the film. Moreover, we'd recently learned that Nathan Fillion and filmmaker Taika Waititi will be joining the cast, as will Steve Agee, who is set to voice the character King Shark.
Gunn is set to write and direct the "worst of the worst" reboot, which has Chuck Roven and Peter Safran producing and Nik Korda serving as executive producer.
Funnily enough, I just bumped into Peter Capaldi at FAN EXPO CANADA last weekend. I was a bit shocked to see that he'd chopped off his signature locks, and was sporting a tightly shaved hairstyle. He wasn't bald, mind you. Think miliary issue with a few weeks-worth of growth.
Capaldi is surely a commanding presense on screen, and I can only help but wonder who he'll play in the upcoming film. If you ask me, the cast for this movie has really shaped up over the past few weeks, which has me thinking that Gunn has some larger-than-life plans for his DC debut.
