In the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan), this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of one of the most sophisticated manhunts in law enforcement history and celebrates the strength of the people of Boston.
Peter Berg has already delivered one of the better disaster films of this year (check out our review of DEEPWATER HORIZON HERE), and if this trailer is any indication, PATRIOTS DAY also looks to deliver a powerful and visceral film. There's a very genuine feel when it comes to the events of this trailer, which make it all the more haunting. Given the actors on-hand, I have no doubts we're in for one emotional story come next year.
PATRIOTS DAY opens in limited release on December 21st, and nationwide on January 13th.
