Director Peter Berg and star Mark Wahlberg may be reuniting for their third film together after LONE SURVIVOR and the upcoming DEEPWATER HORIZON. In keeping with the true tales of perseverance, Variety reports that Berg is close to a deal that would have him direct the Boston Marathon bombing story PATRIOTS' DAY.
PATRIOTS' DAY will represent the first feature film collaboration for CBS Films and 60 Minutes. The screenplay comes from BRIDGE OF SPIES writer Matt Charman and focuses on the book by Boston Police commissioner Ed Davis. Wahlberg is eyeing the role of Davis but nothing is locked in for the actor as of yet.
The tragic bombing of the Boston Marathon has been a hot subject for feature films in development. Alongside PATRIOTS' DAY, director David Gordon Green is helming STRONGER which is based on the account of a survivor of the blast and may star Jake Gyllenhaal. Casey Affleck is circling the film BOSTON STRONG while 20th Century Fox is also developing a film about the attack.
I really liked LONE SURVIVOR and the team of Berg and Wahlberg has been fruitful over the years. The two currently produce the HBO series Ballers on which Berg also appears as a character and DEEPWATER HORIZON has the potential to be really good. Here's hoping this one comes together.
