It's been announced that comedians Pete Davidson and Colin Jost are taking their years' worth of Saturday Night Live chemistry to the big screen for WORST MAN, which is is based on an original idea pitched by Jost, Matthew Bass and Theodore Bressman.
Presented as a wedding comedy, WORST MAN follows a soon-to-be-married couple and the family dramatics that ensue just weeks before the wedding. While the film is still undergoing construction, the Universal-based project has the studio's senior executive vice president of production Erik Baiers overseeing with SNL producer Lorne Michaels in line to produce.
In recent times, Davidson had transformed himself into a leading man for director Jason Orley's BIG TIME ADOLESCENCE, followed shortly thereafter by a role in John Turturro's Big Lebowski spinoff THE JESUS ROLLS. He then went on to star in THE KING OF STATEN ISLAND for director Judd Apatow. Davidson plays Scott Carlin in the comedic drama, a character who after his firefighter dad dies, spends his days smoking weed and dreaming of becoming a tattoo artist. As grief steadily settles in, Scott comes to terms with having to take his next steps forward in life. You can also catch Davidson in James Gunn's THE SUICIDE SQUAD, which is scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
While Jost has fewer acting credits to his name, he has kept busy for quite some time as a co-head writer on Saturday Night Live alongside Michael Che. Jost also has a memoir scheduled to hit book store shelves on July 14 titled "A Very Punchable Face," which by all accounts is a great title for just about anything, let alone a book of recollections and personal stories. Finally, Jost will star alongside Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Rob Delaney and Ken Jeong for Warner Bros.' TOM & JERRY, a live-action and animated hybrid film based on the classic cartoon.
Seeing as production is still a rocky terrain nowadays thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, it could be a while before we hear more about this promising project. We'll be sure to keep you updated, though in the meantime you might want to check out Davidson in BIG TIME ADOLESCENCE, which our own Chris Bumbray gave high praise in his semi-recent review.
