Quite possibly the number one movie I'm looking forward to is directors Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch's (STARRY EYES) re-adaptation of Stephen King's PET SEMATARY. We already know the film stars Jason Clarke as new Louis Creed, John Lithgow as new Jud Crandall, and Amy Seimetz as new Rachel Creed, but today we have word the film has begun shooting!
Co-director Dennis Widmyer broke the news over on Twitter posting a pic of himself and co-director Kevin Kolsch on-set with the caption: "Day One." You can check out the post below for confirmation. While Stephen King wrote the screenplay for the '89 film, David Kajganich, Matt Greenberg, and Jeff Buhler have written the script this time around. PET SEMATARY has the following synopsis:
Doctor Louis Creed moves his family to Maine, where he meets a friendly local named Jud Crandall. After the Creeds' cat is accidentally killed, Crandall advises Louis to bury it in the ground near the old pet cemetery. The cat returns to life, its personality changed for the worse. When Louis' son, Gage, dies tragically, Louis decides to bury the boy's body in the same ground despite the warnings of Crandall and Louis' visions of a deceased patient.
As you can imagine, I'm excited as hell to hear the new take on King's classic novel started principal photography today. This means we will (hopefully) be getting tons of updates on the film over the next few weeks. And with this in mind, make sure to keep checking back with us here at AITH as we will make sure to keep you guys up-to-date on any and all news regarding this new version of King's book.
PET SEMATARY is scheduled to reach theatres on April 5, 2019.
