Pet Sematary prequel welcomes Pam Grier to the cast

Although the Pet Sematary remake of 2019 didn't exactly blow anyone away, it did end up grossing more than $110 million worldwide, which certainly isn't bad for a film that only cost a hair over $20 million to make. You know where I'm going with this; box-office cash means sequel, or in this case, prequel. It was announced earlier this year that Paramount were developing a new Pet Sematary film based on the Stephen King bestseller, but this time around, it will serve as an origin story.

With production on the Pet Sematary prequel set to kick off next month, the cast has begun to come together, and Variety has reported that the one and only Pam Grier has signed on. Unfortunately, it's not known what type of character she'll be playing, but Pam Grier is a welcome addition to any film. The cast includes Jackson White (Mrs. Fletcher) as a young Jud Crandall, as well as Forrest Goodluck (The Revenant), Jack Mulhern (Mare of Easttown), Natalie Alyn Lind (The Goldbergs) and Isabella Star LaBlanc (Long Slow Exhale). The prequel will serve as the feature directorial debut of Lindsey Beer, the screenwriter behind Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and the upcoming Star Trek sequel. Jeff Buhler, who scripted the 2019 remake, returns once again to pen the script for the prequel. Shortly after the release of the remake, Buhler teased that they were already talking about a follow-up which would dig "into the mythology of the town, these rituals that children present, the mythology of the Micmac, the Wendigo, the cemetery, the origins, and Jud's life."

We don't know exactly when the Pet Sematary prequel will be released, but when it does, it will be a Paramount+ exclusive.
