Penelope Cruz joins Sacha Baron Cohen’s spy comedy Grimsby

Sacha Baron Cohen's upcoming spy comedy GRIMSBY will start filming soon in the United Kingdom and South Africa, and THR has learned another actress is close to joining its cast. The site is reporting Penelope Cruz is in final negotiations to star in GRIMSBY, and sources have told THR she will play "a philanthropic corporate leader who may (or may not) be more than she seems."

GRIMSBY will follow a Black Ops agent (Mark Strong) who must team up with his soccer hooligan brother (Sacha Baron Cohen) after he is forced to hide in his hometown. If Penelope Cruz does join the project, she will also star alongside Isla Fisher, Ian McShane, Gabourey Sidibe and Johnny Vegas.

Louis Leterrier (NOW YOU SEE ME, CLASH OF THE TITANS) will be behind the camera for the comedy, and is based on a script from Sacha Baron Cohen, Phil Johnston (WRECK-IT-RALPH) and Peter Baynham (BORAT, HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA).

I was kind of disappointed in Sacha Baron Cohen's THE DICTATOR, however I do think GRIMSBY has the potential to be a very funny movie. Granted I said the same thing when I first learned about THE DICTATOR, but GRIMSBY has a very solid cast, and Mark Strong and Sacha Baron Cohen playing off of each other could be hilarious. Last week we got a first look at Sacha Baron Cohen as Mark Strong's idiot brother, and I can't wait to see more from their new movie.

GRIMSBY will be in theaters on July 31, 2015.
