Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn & more join Freaky Tales from Captain Marvel directors

Deadline has reported that Captain Marvel directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden are busy setting up one heck of a cast for their latest movie, Freaky Tales.

The new project will star Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), Ben Mendelsohn (Secret Invasion), Jay Ellis (Top Gun: Maverick), Dominique Thorne (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Jack Champion (Avatar: The Way of Water), Keir Gilchrist (It Follows), Angus Cloud (Euphoria), and Michelle Farrah Huang (Atypical). Set in Oakland in 1987, Freaky Tales is a “wholly original, immersive film inspired by Ryan’s experience growing up in the bay. The film is comprised of four interconnected stories each featuring distinct characters, real life locations and noteworthy historical events (some real, some imagined).

Pedro Pascal will next be seen in The Last of Us, HBO’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the hugely popular video game franchise. The Last of Us series takes place “20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed by a deadly virus. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone to the Fireflies, a cure-searching organization. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.” In addition to Pedro Pascal, The Last of Us also features Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Storm Reid, Jeffrey Pierce and Anna Torv. The series will debut on HBO on January 15, 2023. As for Ben Mendelsohn, he’ll be reprising his role of Talos in Marvel’s upcoming Secret Invasion series for Disney+. The series also stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Don Cheadle as James Rhodes, as well as Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Kingsley Ben-Adir.
