We're still a number of months out from the release of The Suicide Squad, but writer/director James Gunn is sticking with the DC Universe for now as he's still in the midst of production on Peacemaker, a spin-off series that will debut on HBO Max next year. The series will revolve around John Cena's character from the feature-film, but also includes Jennifer Holland as NSA agent Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Chris Conrad as The Vigilante, and Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn. The cast, minus Robert Patrick, gathered for a couple of set-photos which were shared by Gunn on Twitter.

Also it’s important to say we miss our pal – and fellow regular cast member – @robertpatrickT2 in this photo, but he’s not in town today! Here’s what we’re shooting right now: pic.twitter.com/NkZ1bVVwBs

Digging what I assume to be Peacemaker's patriotic trailer. The Peacemaker series is looking to follow in the R-rated footsteps of the feature-film as Gunn responded to rumours that the series would also air on The CW by saying, "If we edited it for broadcast TV it would be forty seconds long." I can't wait. As far as The Suicide Squad goes, the film will feature a mix of old and new cast-members including Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Peter Capaldi, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Alice Braga, Pete Davidson, David Dastmalchian, Micheal Rooker, Daniela Melchior, and more. The Suicide Squad is slated to hit theaters and HBO Max on August 6, 2021. Peacemaker will debut on HBO Max in January 2022.
