John Cena wants to smell what Dwayne Johnson is cooking in a future episode of Peacemaker. While speaking with People Magazine, the topic of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam came up. After expressing how excited he is for the character’s arrival, Cena said he would be honored if Johnson appeared in the Peacemaker TV series. While it’s not up to Cena whether or not Johnson makes an appearance, he does have the ear of executives now that Peacemaker is a major hit on HBO Max.
“I’ll say the same thing every time with possibilities in the sort of universe… it would be an honor and a privilege to be able to perform with him,” Cena explained. “I think there still is a passionate marketplace that wants to see him in. But I’m sorry, man, that’s just not my choice so I don’t know. It’s so far beyond me. It’s beyond what I’m able to control.”
Cena, alongside James Gunn and the rest of the Peacemaker cast, are thrilled to be getting a second season of their hit show. While streaming numbers are always a bit muddy, Peacemaker was hailed as the “biggest series in the world” when it aired on HBO Max. Due to Peacemaker‘s success, Gunn is also working with HBO to develop a spin-off series based on another character from 2021’s The Suicide Squad.
“We’re working on something else now, another TV show that’s connected to that universe,” Gunn told us, “I can’t quite say,” Gunn revealed on an upcoming episode of Deadline‘s Hero Nation.
Sources indicate that ideas for another Suicide Squad spin-off are in the early stages of development. While it has been said that the second spin-off would revolve around a character featured in Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, their identity has yet to be revealed. Moreover, nothing has been written or greenlit, but HBO Max is said to be picking up what Gunn is putting down.
When asked if the series involves Peter Capaldi’s Thinker, Gunn simply laughed and said “I can’t say anything. It is connected to this universe, and I don’t think it will be the same genre as Peacemaker; it won’t be as much a comedy as Peacemaker, but it will be in the same universe.”
