Everyone loves a good cameo, but James Gunn managed to pull off one of the greatest of all time when he got most of the Justice League to appear in the final episode for Peacemaker‘s first season. When the cameo happened, fans couldn’t get enough of a good thing. Now we’re hearing that Gunn has “tons” of footage from that epic moment, some of which include 16 minutes of Ezra Miller’s Flash making fun of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. That’s right! I’m talking about Peacemaker‘s unforgettable Justice League cameo!
“I have tons of stuff I didn’t use,” Gunn told the folks at Total Film. “Ezra went on – and I’m not kidding – for 16 minutes about Aquaman having sex with fish. It was really funny.”
In the Season 1 finale for Peacemaker, select members of the Justice League (Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman) arrive late to the party. However, Miller and Momoa were the only actors who showed up to reprise their roles, while the rest of the cast were represented by distinct silhouettes. While some fans groused about Batman and Cyborg not being present, the cameo still got a massive reaction online.
“It was done through pure force of will on my part, of really pushing it to happen,” Gunn confessed. “I think everybody read it in the script, agreed to it, and then it became [a thing], and they realized what a big fucking deal it was.”
“I think we’re going to see more connections in some other stuff as we move forward with Peacemaker and other shows at HBO Max. So those [cameos] will keep coming,” Gunn says. “I don’t know if the Justice League is going to show up in every season of Peacemaker; that might be a one-time thing. We’ll see!”
While the second season of Peacemaker has already been given a green light, Gunn says he has two other DC projects in active development. Gunn and Warner Bros. have yet to confirm if the filmmaker’s second television project is a spinoff of Peacemaker or The Suicide Squad. Previously, it was believed that the show would involve an existing member of Task Force X, but that no longer appears to be the case. “You know, we’re stepping forward. It keeps happening. We’ll see what’s happening, and I’ll know what’s happening very shortly. I dealt with it last night and this morning,” Gunn told Collider.
