Director Edward Zwick might be best known for his war epics GLORY and THE LAST SAMURAI, but he's scaled things down for his latest picture, PAWN SACRIFICE. The film will follow chess prodigy Bobby Fischer (Tobey Maguire) as he prepares for a legendary match-up against Russian Boris Spassky (Liev Schreiber). A multitude of chess games pave the way for political agendas and madness in this new trailer.
Now here's a film that's been lying dormant for a while now. We actually reviewed it at last year's Toronto International Film Festival (check it out here) and while that review may not exactly sing the film's praises, the subject matter is no less interesting. Ed Zwick may be a little more paint-by-numbers than some prefer, but he generally knows how to craft an entertaining film. Plus, Liev Schreiber totally kills as any film's antagonist (GOON anyone?).
PAWN SACRIFICE will open in select theaters on September 18, 2015.
