Paul W.S. Anderson’s Monster Hunter teaser shows a dragon attacking a plane

About a week ago, a very short teaser for Paul W.S. Anderson's upcoming video game adaptation MONSTER HUNTER was released online and gave a glimpse of a scene in which a group of soldiers – including heroine Milla Jovovich – witness a giant monster emerging from the sand in a desert. Over the weekend, Anderson sat down for a New York Comic Con video interview, and he wrapped up the conversation by sharing another short teaser for his new film.

In this teaser, which is embedded above, we see a dragon creature that fans of the MONSTER HUNTER games will know as a Rathalos attacking an airplane. Anderson actually refers to this thing as a "Greater Rathalos" because it's "bigger and better" than the Rathalos in the game.

The reason for that is it's associated with this ancient civilization, which is a theme that runs through several of the games. So there's a kind of secret associated with this Greater Rathalos that people will discover when they see the movie."

MONSTER HUNTER has the following synopsis:

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity.

When an unexpected sandstorm transports Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower. In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown.

The film is scheduled to reach theatres on December 30, 2020.
