Paul Rudd and Alexander Skarsgard join Duncan Jones’ sci-fi thriller Mute

Duncan Jones has been working on MUTE for quite a number of years, even going so far as to call it his "Don Quixote". Jones had said that he would be giving the film one last push once WARCRAFT wrapped up and if it didn't work, he'd be shelving the project. Thankfully, it hasn't come to that and Duncan Jones' next film will indeed be the long-awaited MUTE, and not only that, but the film's stars are already in place.

Paul Rudd and Alexander Skarsgard will be starring in the film which takes place in Berlin, forty years from today in a "science-fiction Casablanca." Director Duncan Jones said: “I’ve been working towards making MUTE for 12 years now.  I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that we’re finally going to shoot this utterly unique film.  The fact that I get to make it with Alexander Skarsgard and Paul Rudd makes it all the more exciting!  MUTE is a film that will last.  It is unlike any other science fiction being made today.” Sam Rockwell, who was unbelievable in MOON, will also be joining the film.

What's MUTE all about?

Berlin. Forty years from today. A roiling city of immigrants, where East crashes against West in a science-fiction Casablanca.  Leo Beiler (Skarsgard), a mute bartender has one reason and one reason only for living here, and she’s disappeared. But when Leo’s search takes him deeper into the city’s underbelly, an odd pair of American surgeons (led by Rudd) seem to be the only recurring clue, and Leo can’t tell if they can help, or who he should fear most.

As a big fan of both MOON and SOURCE CODE, it's great to know that Duncan Jones will be returning to sci-fi once again, and, after the long road that it took to get here, I'd imagine that Jones himself is gratified that MUTE will finally be seen. Duncan Jones' next, WARCRAFT, opens on June 10, 2016.
