The PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise is no stranger to showcasing the talents of famous musicians. Johnny Depp famously based his performance as Jack Sparrow around the Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards, who then starred as the character’s father in PIRATES 3 and 4. Now that DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES is rolling out soon, it’s time to take a look at yet another music icon ready to live the pirate life – Paul McCartney.
The actor took to Twitter to share the first look at his character from the movie, fit with a luscious beard, giant hat and the starry look in his eyes of adventure on the horizon:
The character McCartney is playing in the film is listed on IMDb as a “Jail Guard 2”, so chances are his role is nothing more than an awesome, glorified cameo. Still, that could all be a ruse, and perhaps McCartney has a bigger role than we thought. Why go through all the trouble of Photoshopping him onto a poster if he only has one line?
I guess the answer to that last sentence is because it’s Paul F***ing McCartney. One of the most iconic figures in all of music, this is a huge get for the franchise no matter how big or small the part. It would be cool if Richards were to show up alongside McCartney, even though that would probably cause the theater to explode in awesomeness. Maybe they could sing a sea chantey together…or kill each other. Either could be cool.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES arrives May 26 with Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Javier Bardem, Orlando Bloom and more.
