Paul Giamatti is still talking up Bubba Nosferatu

Paul Giamatti is one of those A-list guys who seems to have a genuine love for the genre (sort of like Nicholas Cage, but less crazy). The award winning actor most recently hitched his horror movie wagon to director Don Coscarelli’s by co-starring in and producing JOHN DIES AT THE END. With the film’s release approaching it seems that the pair are still planning to pursue the much hyped BUBBA NOSFERATU: CURSE OF THE SHE-VAMPIRES.

In a recent interview, Giamatti discussed his hopes for the project:

The part I would play would be Colonel Parker, who was Elvis’ manager, and it was always a sinister relationship between the two of them, with how he had such control over him. The movie answers that question. It’s a vampire movie, and that’s part of how he has a hold over him. It’s a fantastic script! It’s different from the other one, but it’s still all about aging and compromising yourself. The way Bubba Ho-Tep was about getting old, this one’s about being middle-aged, in a great way. I hope that maybe we can still get it done ‘cause it’s a really great script.

Bruce Campbell opted out of returning for the sequel years ago, which is one factor that has stalled the film’s production. Ron Perlman was rumored to be taking his place but, again, it’s been nearly 10 years since BUBBA HO-TEP and still no sequel. While it’s easy to appreciate Giamatti’s continued cheerleading for the film to get made, I hold out as much hope for a BUBBA NOSFERATU at this point as I do another PHANTASM sequel. Which is to say, I’ll believe it when I see it. Until then, feel free to talkback among yourselves below to discuss the merits of a BUBBA NOSFERATU at this stage in the game.
