Paul Feig calls Dark Army a true monster movie

GHOSTBUSTERS (2016) director Paul Feig will write and direct a Universal monster movie called DARK ARMY based on his original idea. No one is sure how his film will tie into the Monster universe but we do know that the flick will include both classic Universal monsters AND original characters.

And today Feig updated all of us on the flick, saying he's very excited to get to work on it. And – better still – he says while he isn't interested in doing a "horror movie" with DARK ARMY, he does say that he's interested in doing a "true monster film." Whatever that means.

Feig says:

I wrote a draft and got thoughts from the studio, and now I’m in the middle of a rewrite on that right now, and so hopefully that’ll be my next movie. If it’s not, it’ll be the one after whatever I do next. But yeah, I’m very excited about it, too. It’s just, you want to get it right.

He continues:

I really want to bring the same feeling those old monster movies I loved growing up watching [did]. I’m not as interested in doing a horror movie as I am in doing a true monster film. Hopefully, that will see the light of day. You never know … these days, but I love it… I’m excited about the characters that I’ve created and about some of the ones that I’ve been able to bring over from the old movies.

And finally, he adds:

It’s really smart because I mean, I can’t wait for Invisible Man, but that looks like a straight-up great horror movie, you know? But then the fact that I just read that they’re going to do this like a monster musical, and that’s great, too… It’s nice to see it just kind of get interpreted a million different ways. So I’m excited about mine and about whatever else they’re going to do.

On top of writing and directing DARK ARMY, Feig will also serve as the film's producer along with Laura Fischer through his Universal-based Feigco Productions. How excited are YOU for Paul Feig's DARK ARMY? Let us know below! We'll let you know when we hear more regarding DARK ARMY.
