Paul Feig on the Ghostbusters theme song and the different types of ghosts

As of yesterday, we've finally witnessed our new GHOSTBUSTERS team of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones in action with the release of the first trailer for Paul Feig's film. As is typical with most GHOSTBUSTERS news since this project was announced, the response was, shall we say, mixed. GHOSTBUSTERS director Paul Feig was on-hand during a special GHOSTBUSTERS event recently (via CinemaBlend) and said that the new film will be carrying on a few GHOSTBUSTERS traditions, such as using the iconic Ray Parker Jr. GHOSTBUSTERS theme song..

You’re definitely going to hear the Ghostbusters song, because you can’t do Ghostbusters without that song. We’re playing not only with the original one, which it would be a crime not to hear that song, but also new versions of it.

Paul Feig has secured the services of Teddy Shapiro, who worked with Feig on SPY, to compose the themes for GHOSTBUSTERS and Feig said that Shaprio is "doing an amazing theme, and we’re really playing with a lot of different themes. I want this to be big, spooky, gothic, cool, and he’s doing an amazing job. I think you’ll be very happy when you hear what we’re doing score-wise." In addition to the GHOSTBUSTERS theme, you obviously need to have some great looking ghosts in a GHOSTBUSTERS flick, and Paul Feig chatted a little about the types of ghosts we have to look forward to.

Being such a science nut, I wanted these ghosts to be what I always considered a ghost to be, which is dead people coming back. So even though we played with that, there are other types of ghosts in it – we have fun with what comes up. I wanted to keep the main ghosts to be basically humanoid, but again you’re gonna get every kind. But especially for the early interactions with the Ghostbusters and the supernatural. It also comes from me, on the set, I didn’t want my actors acting with tennis balls – which they do in some of these CGI movies.

GHOSTBUSTERS will be in theaters on July 15, 2016.
