Paul Feig continues to earn the benefit of the doubt for each new project he involves himself with, considering he hasn't made a stinker from the lot of them to this point. They all turn out to be surprisingly funny, which is why I'm intrigued he has chosen to participate in SUPERMODEL SNOWPOCALYPSE.
Feig is only producing the film under his Feigco banner, and, on the surface, the title seems like something you'd catch as a Syfy Original when you have nothing better to do on your Sunday afternoon. However, the story at the heart of the film is based in truth… and it most definitely is about supermodels stuck in a ridiculous snowstorm.
Paramount has picked up the rights to an Elle article subtitled This Drug-Fueled, Multimillion-Dollar Supermodel Snowpocalypse Has Been Fashion's Best-Kept Secret Since '77. A group of Americans traveled to Chile for a photoshoot, and, soon after landing, were met by a massive blizzard. Attempting to make lemonade out of lemons, those stuck at the mountain ski resort turned the place into a Studio 54-type environment.
However, after two weeks without working phones and only the second floor windows providing a way out, the American group hatched a plot to get the hell away from the frozen tundra and back to their lives.
This one is certainly different, and the fact that it's a true story makes it even weirder. Who knows how this one will develop under a different director, but I'll be keeping my eye on it.
In the meantime, Paul Feig's GHOSTBUSTERS is still playing in theaters.
