THE BATMAN cast has consistently been praising Matt Reeves' take on the caped crusader with Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell sharing their positive thoughts about the project. During a recent chat with The Playlist's Rodrigo Perez, Paul Dano, who is playing The Riddler in the film, became the latest cast member to praise Reeves' script.
Dano was promoting his directorial debut WILDLIFE when the chat with Perez briefly turned to THE BATMAN. Dano touched on his time on set before the COVID-19 shutdown and his thoughts on Reeves script:
"I was filming. I flew home to visit my baby and then didn’t get to fly back [to set, because of coronavirus], which is a really strange thing. But I feel really good about it. I think Matt Reeves is the real deal. I was really surprised by his script, which I think is potentially really powerful. Hopefully, we’ll get to get back to it sometime soon? I’m not sure."
Dano also teased a little bit about his character by saying “There’s something fun there in my character and in all the characters. It’s the kind of movie that we’re just desperate to share on the big screen in a big way. So, I hope we all figure this [coronavirus situation] out and get excited to see a Batman movie. It will be worth it. It’s going to be really cool.” Dano's comments about Reeves and his script pretty much echo the sentiments of some of his co-stars. Serkis, who plays Alfred in the film, was the most recent to discuss his assessment of THE BATMAN, telling LADbible that the tone of the film would be “darker and broodier" and he also praised the relationship that Reeves crafted in the script between Alfred and Bruce Wayne, played by Robert Pattinson. In a January Jimmy Kimmel Live! interview, Colin Farrell, who is set to play The Penguin, also talked about his early involvement with the movie by saying “I’m in the process of talking to Matt Reeves, who’s the director, who wrote the script, and wrote a really beautiful, dark, moving script, really gorgeous. It’s all very hush hush. but it’s a really beautiful script that he wrote and he has a real love for it, Matt. So, we’re in the process of finishing designing the aesthetic of the character.”
Sounds like THE BATMAN is in good hands with Matt Reeves. Taking a character and brand like this is no easy task but Reeves has proven to be a very competent filmmaker and judging from what those involved have said, he also seems very passionate about the project as well. I'm sure when everyone is able to get back to work, they'll be attacking the film with fresh energy and a true desire to bring Reeves' script to life.
THE BATMAN is slated to hit screens on June 25, 2021.
