Patty Jenkins says Wonder Woman sequel to be a totally different film

With the unfortunate reception that JUSTICE LEAGUE received, it seems that WONDER WOMAN is still standing alone as the DCEU's most successful film on all fronts, which must have Warner Bros. anxious to get the sequel off the ground as soon as possible. We're still almost two years out from the release of WONDER WOMAN 2, but Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot seem pumped to get back to work on the film, and they told ET Canada that the sequel will be quite different from the first.

We’re actually making a totally different film with a lot of the same, similar like things that we love, but it’s its own movie completely, so it’s not ‘two’ to us. It’s an entirely new adventure together that we couldn’t be luckier [to do].

As Wonder Woman's history covers quite a lot of ground, crafting something "totally different" will hopefully be made a little easier when you can place the character in just about any moment of the past century. Exactly when the sequel will be set is still unknown, but rumours have pointed to either a World War II or Cold War-era story. I suppose time will tell.

Gal Gadot added that her six-year-old daughter loves the whole Wonder Woman phenomenon, despite not seeing the movie yet, and Gadot said that "She’s already asked me if she can take over when I’m older." WONDER WOMAN director Patty Jenkins also noted that her nine-year-old son has also climbed aboard the Wonder Woman train. "My son doesn’t care about what I do that much," Jenkins said. "But he plays with superheroes and he cares about those things and watching my own child’s transformation of being like, ‘Oh, I need that Wonder Woman doll, OK cool’ – she became a serious character to him. He loves Wonder Woman, and it’s been amazing to watch this character come back to that generation in such an authentic way and everything she stands for, right alongside all these other great characters." One element which Gadot and Jenkins are hoping to include in the sequel is the original Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter. There was apparently an attempt to get Carter to make a cameo in the first film, but the scheduling didn't work out, however, Jenkins teased that they're still trying to make it work.

WONDER WOMAN 2 is set for a November 1, 2019 release.
