Patty Jenkins says Wonder Woman 3 will definitely be a contemporary story

There's little reason to believe that the upcoming WONDER WOMAN 1984 won't be just as successful, if not more so, than the first WONDER WOMAN film, so it's likely that Warner Bros. will get the ball rolling on a third installment before too long. Last week we learned that director Patty Jenkins already has a good idea where WONDER WOMAN 3 will take Diana Prince (Gal Gadot); "I have pretty clear plans for Wonder Woman 3. Whether I [direct] it or not, I see how her arc should end in my incarnation of Wonder Woman," Jenkins said. "I have great passion for that."

As the first film took place in the era of World War I and the sequel will be jumping forward to the 1980s, there was much discussion as to when the third film will take place. It seems that Patty Jenkins has put an end to the debate as she told THR that WONDER WOMAN 3 will be a contemporary story.

I'm not set, but I'm not doing another period piece… I'm not planning to put it in the past again, because where are you going to go? You have to go forward. It's definitely a contemporary story. That's all I can say. Where we put it and how that gets figured out, I haven't totally nailed down.

As we're still quite a ways off from WONDER WOMAN 3, this could certainly change, but Jenkins seems like she's quite sure where she's headed. The director also touched upon fans who have suggested that she, or AQUAMAN director James Wan, take the helm of a new JUSTICE LEAGUE movie. "The Justice League movie, I find those movies to be extremely challenging. I think they are fantastic when they are well done," Jenkins said. "But taking on all of those characters at the same time in the timeline. … I sort of hope that we don't do a Justice League movie for a little while because I'm excited to see all of their movies. I want to see Aquaman 2, I want to see Flash."

WONDER WOMAN 1984 is set to hit theaters on June 5, 2020.
