Likely to the surprise of no one, Variety has reported that Patty Jenkins has just closed a deal to direct WONDER WOMAN 2, which will see Gal Gadot reprising her role of the heroic Amazon for another action-packed adventure. It's surprising that it's taken Warner Bros. this long to get Patty Jenkins to sign on the dotted line, but the reason for the prolonged negotiations apparently stemmed from Jenkins wanting a much bigger payday this time around, and rightly so, WONDER WOMAN has proven not only to be a box-office success, but has also emerged as the highest rated film in the DCEU by far.
Although Patty Jenkins may have only just officially signed on as the director of the already much-anticipated sequel, she's been hard at work with Geoff Johns crafting the treatment for months already, which she teased will finally showcase the "full-blown" Wonder Woman.
The greatest thing about making this movie was the fact that you’re really building to the Wonder Woman that we all love, but not until the end of the movie. The most exciting thing about [the sequel] is literally seeing her loose in the world now, living those classic stories. Here’s Wonder Woman, and what can she do? It should be a totally different movie, but a grand and now full-blown Wonder Woman in the world.
In addition to directing, Patty Jenkins will also co-write and produce the sequel, which THR adds will give Jenkins a payday somewhere in the range of $7 to $9 million, plus, she will also receive a considerable percentage of the back-end. Not bad at all. For comparison, Patty Jenkins was paid $1 million to direct the first WONDER WOMAN. Are you pleased to see Patty Jenkins return for more WONDER WOMAN? Or where you hoping that someone else might step into the director's chair?
WONDER WOMAN 2 is already slated for a December 13, 2019 release.
