Production on THE CONJURING 2 has just wrapped up and according to star Patrick Wilson, it may contain James Wan's creepiest scene yet. As someone who found both THE CONJURING and INSIDIOUS to be absolutely terrifying, I don't know whether to be thrilled or go buy some adult diapers; I suppose I could do both. Patrick Wilson spoke with Entertainment Weekly soon after he finished up work on THE CONJURING 2 and teased the scene in question.
A month ago we shot this one scene, and I said to him, ‘Four movies with you, man, and this was the creepiest scene I’ve ever done.’ It was so freaky and bizarre and strange — just get ready!
After the success of THE CONJURING, the studio quickly moved forward with a sequel based upon the Enfield Poltergeist who haunted two sisters at a council house in the London Borough of Enfield. Patrick Wilson wouldn't give anything away, other than to say that THE CONJURING 2 will continue the quality set forth in the first film while giving us something different.
Without giving anything away, he wouldn’t settle for the film ending with me giving an exorcism and then the witch goes away, we can’t do that again, so we don’t … I love that they pushed the skepticism of it, I love that they pushed the Warrens’ involvement, and it’s awesome. And we stole from a couple real situations where the Warrens were confronted by skeptics, because James is real conscious of that. He knows that fans who want to believe will see the movies, but he knows there are a lot of skeptics out there, so why not show that? We probably had more fun shooting it than the first one. I love it; it was fantastic.
Both Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson return as paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren, and they'll be joined by Frances O'Connor, Franka Potente, Simon McBurney, Madison Wolfe, and Lauren Esposito. Some actors never seem to find working on sequels to be as enjoyable as the first, but Patrick Wilson has found the whole experience very rewarding as everyone involved has been bringing their A-game.
I will say this, and it’s always a tricky thing when you’ve only read it and done your part, but James and I were talking the other night and what we found so rewarding is that everybody across the board is bringing their A-game. We feel like we’ve been given this wonderful gift of success with the first one and we came back and [the studio] gave the picture a lot more money — so you can take more days and more time and more care. And James has pushed himself and pushed himself.
THE CONJURING 2 is set for a June 10, 2016 release.
