Patrick Wilson ponders the future of Orm in Aquaman 2

**Minor Spoilers for AQUAMAN**

Estimates were great for AQUAMAN going into its release in theaters, but the movie has since ridden a wave of success to become the highest-grossing DC movie around the world with over $1.1 billion. A sequel was soon announced, and though it’s years away in 2022 fans are already speculating where the story of Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Jason Momoa) could go. Someone who is also thinking about the future of the series and his character in it is Patrick Wilson, who played the villainous King Orm, a character with a bone or two to pick with the title hero.

Wilson was speaking with SyFy Wire at the independently owned Word bookstore in New Jersey to help promote the new book, “The Art and Making of Aquaman,” when he was asked about what the future holds for his character. Though he was taken to ocean jail at the end of the first movie after losing an epic battle to Aquaman, Wilson feels like his character (a.k.a Ocean Master) will be back, he’s just not sure when.

"I don’t know what the future holds for Orm … You can’t kill him. He’s too important to [Arthur’s] journey … he’s a foil to [his character]…He’s not gonna be a main villain in another movie. I don’t think Orm ends up in Belle Reve like he does in the New 52. I assume they’re gonna keep him in some kind of jail below the surface. If [James] wants me back, I’m certainly happy to come back.”

After performing beyond high expectations over the holiday a sequel to AQUAMAN was announced in January and has been set for a December 2022 release. At this point, there are no details about the sequel, including if director James Wan will return to the chair or who will be behind the script. Word is the studio is very interested in getting Wan back to direct, but apparently, the director wants to take a bit of a break before he signs on for another deep-sea adventure. On that note, there's still room for a script to feature the character in a major way. 

The half-brother to Aquaman, Orm certainly has a similar relationship to that of Loki to Thor in the Marvel movies, being a sibling who views himself a rightful ruler and can keep coming back to clash with his brother from time to time. I liked Wilson plenty in this first movie, and he was a rather intense foil for Aquaman, and for the sequel, I'd like to see him become a bit more unhinged and for Wilson to push that character further. Superhero movie baddies don't often get second chances after being defeated in the first round, so he's in special waters to be able to come back for more. 

AQUAMAN is now available to own on Digital and the sequel is set for December 16, 2022.
