Patrick Wilson and Ted Danson join season 2 cast of FX’s Fargo

Last month, we learned that Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons would star in the second season of FX's FARGO. Dunst's name seemed big enough to equate to Billy Bob Thornton's star-power from the debut season of the acclaimed series, but now comes word of three more additions to the cast. Deadline reports that small screen stalwarts Ted Danson and Jean Smart have joined the series as well as Patrick Wilson.

The FARGO cast now appears to be complete with those five stars being complemented by supporting roles from Nick Offerman, Brad Garrett, Kieran Culkin, Bokeem Woodbine, Jeffrey Donovan and Angus Sampson. Showrunner Noah Hawley has already revealed that the new season will take place in 1979 and focus on police officer Lou Solverson, father to the first season’s Molly Solverson. The character was played by Keith Carradine in the first season and now by Patrick Wilson for the second.

Wilson’s Solverson is a clean-cut Minnesota State Patrolman, four years back from Vietnam, where he served in the Navy. A humble and competent man, Lou is a devoted husband and father. Danson will play Hank Larsson, the Sheriff of Rock County, Minnesota. An unflappable WWII vet who embodies a certain cowboy poetry, Hank is Lou’s father-in-law. Smart will play Floyd Gerhardt, the matriarch of the Gerhardt crime family. She’s stood by her husband’s side for 40 years, but now that he’s out of the picture she thinks it’s her turn to run things.

FARGO was by far one of the best shows on television last year. Despite not being directly involved, Joel and Ethan Coen did give their seal of approval to the show which maintains their tone, style, and biting edge. Here’s hoping the second run will be as good as the first.

Expect FARGO to debut on FX in Fall 2015.
