It seems that Patrick Stewart will be adding yet another franchise to his repertoire as THR has reported that the actor is in final negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming CHARLIE'S ANGELS reboot. Just who will Stewart be playing? Well, it's a name which will be familiar to Angels fans as the actor will be stepping into the role of Bosley, the man who assists the Angel's on their assignments.
In a bit of a twist, Patrick Stewart won't be playing the only Bosley as Elizabeth Banks is also said to be playing Bosley. How many more will we get? The new reboot turns the Townsend Agency into a global security and intelligence service which has teams all around the world, including the next generation of Angels played by Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska. In addition to acting in the reboot, Elizabeth Banks is also directing the film as well as producing and co-writing the script with Jay Basu (THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB). Kristen Stewart has previously said that the new film won't be doing an impression of the previous CHARLIE'S ANGELS movies which starred Drew Barrymore, Carmeron Diaz, and Lucy Li, adding that Elizabeth Banks has her own unique vision for the story which will be a step forward for women.
It is true I think, it is not maybe everyone's immediate response that it would be, like, something we would have to see again because the one I grew up with was so much fun. The re-imagining is so grounded and well intentioned and really shows the way women can work together now. It tries to be warm and funny, but it lacks a kitch element that we have seen before that works so well.
Patrick Stewart will next be seen on the big-screen as Merlin in Joe Cornish's THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING on March 1, 2019. CHARLIE'S ANGELS will be hitting theaters on September 27, 2019.
