Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will not return for X-Men: Apocalypse

Patrick Stewart is working more now in his 70s than he did when he was a younger man. With his returning role as Professor X in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, a stage run with friend Ian McKellen, the new film MATCH hitting theaters, and the upcoming Seth McFarlane sitcom BLUNT TALK on the way, it is a wonder that the guy still finds time for public appearances related to his tenure on STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION and more.

Well, it looks like we may be able to cut one project off of his upcoming slate as Stewart told Larry King during an appearance on the Ora TV talk show Larry King Now that he and McKellen will not reprise their roles as Xavier and Magneto in next year's X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.

“It is gonna be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters, so I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.”

This should come as no surprise based on what we have heard thus far from Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer, but I would never say never as this is planned as the final entry in the NEW CLASS trilogy. So, if there will be no return for the cast after this film, which has not been stated yet, why not go for one last hurrah?

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.
