OKJA and SNOWPIERCER director Bong Joon-ho's black comedy thriller masterpiece PARASITE has just won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Film at this year's Oscars. And today the master filmmaker let us all know that he is prepping his next film – which will be a flick with unique elements of horror and action!
Specifically, Bong says:
I have to work, it’s my job. So I’ve been working for the past 20 years, and regardless of what happened at Cannes and Oscars, I had been working on two projects before then, I’m continuing to work on them, nothing has changed because of these awards. One is in Korean and one is in English. The Korean film is located in Seoul and has unique elements of horror and action.
Hell, yeah. Bring it on! We'll let you know when we hear more. In the meantime, for those of you just now tuning in to the Bong Joon-ho show, the man is no stranger to our beloved genre, helming such neo-classics as MOTHER, MEMORIES OF MURDER, and THE HOST which begins when
Careless American military personnel dump chemicals into South Korea's Han River. Several years later, a creature emerges from the tainted waters and sinks its ravenous jaws into local residents. When the creature abducts their daughter (Ah-sung Ko), a vendor (Song Kang-ho) and his family decide that they are the only ones who can save her.
It was directed by Bong Joon-ho from a screenplay he co-wrote with Baek Chul-hyun. Choi Yong-bae produced and the flick featured Song Kang-ho, Byun Hee-bong, Park Hae-il, Bae Doona, and Go Ah-sung. Showbox Entertainment released it back on July 27, 2006. BUY IT ON BLU-RAY HERE.
