Earlier this year, Paramount announced that a new film in the Paranormal Activity series – one that has been described as a “rebooting” and “unexpected retooling” of the franchise – would be released through the Paramount Plus streaming service. Now Tanya Giles and Tom Ryan of ViacomCBS Streaming have narrowed down the release window, saying the new film will be available to watch “in time for Halloween”… and that a Paranormal Activity documentary will be released through Paramount Plus at the same time.
Here’s what Giles said:
A new Paranormal Activity from Paramount Players should bring fans an unexpected reimagining of the beloved horror franchise. We’ll also be launching a documentary on the making of the Paranormal Activity. Both of which will be coming to the service in time for Halloween.”
So fans of this franchise will have a new movie and a documentary to watch sometime within the next two months.
Underwater director Will Eubank took the helm of the reboot, working from a screenplay by Christopher Landon. Landon previously wrote the second, third, and fourth films, and also wrote and directed Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones.
The film stars Emily Bader, Roland Buck III, Dan Lippert, and Henry Ayres-Brown.
Paranormal Activity creator Oren Peli produced the film with Jason Blum. Landon served as executive producer alongside Steven Schneider.
We’ll let you know when a specific release date is announced for the new film and the documentary. We’ll also keep you updated as more details are revealed about these projects.
I stopped watching Paranormal Activity movies after the third one, so I’m far behind on this series… and I can’t say that the idea of a new movie being an “unexpected retooling” does much to draw me back in. But I’ll probably watch all of these things at some point.
