Love them or hate them, the directors of CATFISH sure had a hit on their hands with the found footage flick about the "dangers" of cyber-relationships. In fact, the doc was so well-received that the filmmaking team got to move up to the semi-big time with PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3.
And today we have word via Collider that the directing team of Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have just snagged two of Hollywood's most popular leading men, Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, for their new currently untitled Netflix sci-fi flick.
Eric Newman (HEMLOCK GROVE), and Bryan Unkeless (I, TONYA) will produce. The film's script was penned by Mattson Tomlin and concerns a
drug epidemic that gives people a range of superpowers. The protagonist is believed to be a teenage actress of color who finds herself dealing the drug to help care for her family.
Foxx will play
a family man who has suffered a great loss and is desperate to trace the drug’s supply line and find its designer
And Gordon-Levitt will play
a beat cop who takes law enforcement matters into his own hands.
Again, I'm interested in this movie right off the bat. The directors snagging such top-shelf actors is a good sign. Netflix, maybe not so much, but I'm optimistic. And speaking of which, we're not sure at this time if this movie will even be "a horror movie." But again, hope springs eternal so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
