It’s really a no-brainer that any studio who picked a $15,000 movie on its way to gross $100M would want to do a sequel. But isn’t there a BLAIR WITCH cautionary tale to be learned from?
According to the Los Angeles Times, Paramount isn’t even done patting itself in the back for acquiring PARANORMAL ACTIVITY that a sequel is already being looked into. Says broadly-smiling studio chairman Brad Grey, “We have the rights on a worldwide basis to do ‘Paranormal 2’ and we’re looking to see if that makes some sense.” In Hollywood makes sense is usually code word for Cha-Ching Motherf*ckers.
What WOULD indeed make sense? Doing a sequel with 10 times the budget like BOOK OF SHADOWS which ended up a bigger dud then the original, or cheaply trying to recreate the original formula with another cost-less film that would hopefully generate just as much word of mouth? What say those who saw the film?
