Following last night's final season premiere of GAME OF THRONES, HBO has unveiled the first Season 2 trailer for BIG LITTLE LIES, the network's highly-acclaimed murder mystery drama. Based on the novel written by Liane Moriarty, the story of Big Little Lies focuses on Madeline Mackenzie (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste Wright (Nicole Kidman) and Jane Chapman (Shailene Woodley), three mothers living in Monterey, California, who after a school scandal emerges, find that they each have a dark and deadly secret to keep. Word has it that when the events of Season 2 unfold, the show will "continue to explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting."
Also set to proverbially position themselves on the BIG LITTLE LIES chessboard this season are Zoë Kravitz, Adam Scott, Laura Dern, and of course, the legendary Meryl Streep, who plays Mary Louis Wright, a grieving mother who's determined to uncover the mystery behind her son's untimely death.
While I've only seen a portion of the first season, I've no doubt that BIG LITTLE LIES will continue to serve as a premiere showcase for the show's cast to strut their stuff. After all, you don't get talents like Witherspoon, Kidman and Streep together for just any run-of-the-mill drama. There's no telling what manner of new tragedy and betrayel will come to The Monterey Five this summer, though I'm happy to report that we won't have to wait very long to find out.
The sophomore season of HBO's BIG LITTLE LIES will debut on June 9, 2019.
