Paramount pulls Terminator sequel from schedule, replaces it with Baywatch

There's been quite a lot of shuffling around of release dates today, with Disney pushing STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII from May to December and moving PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES into Star Wars' now vacant May slot. Sony also shuffled around a few of their upcoming films by moving Tom Holland's first solo SPIDER-MAN film up a few weeks and pushing the JUMANJI remake back into 2017. Paramount is also doing some reorganizing today but, if you were looking forward to the TERMINATOR: GENISYS sequel, it's bad news.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS was set up to be the first of a new sequence of TERMINATOR films and, had it performed well, we'd be well on our way to the second installment by now. Unfortunately the film vastly under-performed in the domestic market in addition to receiving mediocre reviews, which left the already scheduled sequel looking like it wasn't going to be the sure thing that Paramount had hoped it would be. TERMINATOR: GENISYS performed much better internationally and, in the case of some franchises, that'd be enough to keep things moving forward, but Paramount has just announced that they're pulling the TERMINATOR: GENISYS sequel from their schedule. The sequel had been set for a May 19, 2017 release and Paramount isn't about let the date stay empty for long, they're moving Dwayne Johnson's BAYWATCH film into its place.

It's a shame that TERMINATOR: GENISYS wasn't able to be the triumphant return that many hoped it would be, but while the future of TERMINATOR doesn't exactly look bright, Skydance Media Chief Creative Officer Dana Goldberg said last year that the franchise would return after some "re-adjusting."
