It's been ages since I last watched John Woo's FACE/OFF, an action/thriller which had the greatest hook ever, or the worst, depending on who you ask. John Travolta played Sean Archer, an FBI agent obsessed with catching a homicidal sociopath named Castor Troy played by Nicolas Cage. However, when Troy is knocked into a coma shortly after revealing that a bomb is set to go off somewhere in the city, Archer takes the obvious route of having Troy's face surgically transplanted onto him so that he can learn the bomb's location. Completely reasonable, but wouldn't you know it, Troy comes out of that coma after all and forces the doctors to place Archer's face on him. So we've got Nicolas Cage playing John Travolta and John Travolta playing Nicolas Cage, it's exactly the amount of crazy you'd expect, complete with armies of slow-motion doves.
According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures is looking to reboot the craziness which is FACE/OFF with an all-new cast. Paramount has tapped Oren Uziel (THE CLOVERFIELD PARADOX) to pen the script with Neal Moritz (FAST & FURIOUS) set to produce and David Permut (HACKSAW RIDGE) onboard as executive producer. Honestly, the best course of action is to just get Nicolas Cage and John Travolta back, see if they can out-crazy the original film, because I'm not sure that a contemporary reboot of FACE/OFF could hope to top it; That, or go in a different direction, like a body-horror thriller or straight-up comedy. Just give us something new.
What do you folks think? Are you down for a FACE/OFF reboot?
